Members of LL2339-N:
The President's message for March is filled with much excitement. I was nominated for the MNPL planning conference (Machinists Non Partisan Political League). I attended this during the week of March 7, 2010. This conference took place in the historical town of Savannah, GA home to Paula Deen’s restaurant. Most of you probably would not know my political beliefs, but that aside I went anyway. I took time to open my mind to allow myself to be educated through a conference the membership voted in spending money on to learn from. I returned with much knowledge and look forward to sharing this at the April 13, 2010 business meeting.
For the month of April, we have some exciting things planned. We will be sending 3 attendees to the Flight Safety Conference at the IAM education center in Maryland. This committee acts the same as the company’s ERT program. This allows us to be responsive on the Union side and not just the selected from the company. We know these persons will return with much use for our lodge. The Vice President (Michael Becerra) and I are scheduled to begin our education by attending a class entitled Leadership I. In addition, the e-board will have their one on one training this month as well, so, through education we can move the lodge in a positive direction.
The newly formed communication team is hard at work, both at ExpressJet and Continental to begin informing you about the community involvement our Union is having in the surrounding areas. They have been, and will continue to take emails so you can sign up and be in the know at www.ll23394u.org. The communication team is also promoting two big events we have coming up. On April 25th, the Women’s committee will be sponsoring the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer walk in Newark. Our legislative team will be sponsoring the Aids walk in NYC for the month of MAY. The current contract survey has ended at Continental, but the ExpressJet survey is still well underway. We encourage on all sides that you give your input to make your contract work for you.
This month’s meeting was chaired by our lodges Vice President Michael Becerra. Although this meeting was just and informational meeting I have heard only good things from everyone in my absence. We encourage you to continue to get involved and be in the know going forward. We still have many committees that need you to make it happen. Together all of us can make this local a successful one. Please do not forget, our next business meeting is April 13, 2010 at the Renaissance Hotel Newark Airport at 3pm. Remember one thing your e-board makes recommendations for intent to move money, but only the body of the membership can make it happen.
In Solidarity,
Joey Guider, President LL2339-N
